When choosing a language school, most students look first at the country and then at the price. The right order, however, starts the other way round: what are you learning the language for? Are you aiming for an exam score, preparing for university, or do you want to speak more comfortably in your working life? Programme types: which suits whom?

• General language course: our partner sources generally define this as 20 lessons per week. It develops the four core skills in a balanced way and is a comfortable start for students going abroad for the first time.
• Intensive course: the number of weekly lessons rises to around 30. It suits those with limited time who aim to progress faster; as lesson hours increase, so does the weekly fee.
• Exam preparation: there are classes for IELTS, TOEFL and Cambridge in English, and TestDaF, telc and Goethe exams in German. Exam technique and time management are at the heart of the lessons.
• One-to-one lessons: a personalised programme for those who want to work on business language, interview preparation or a specific weak skill. As it is the most expensive option, it is often planned in addition to group lessons.
• Academic and business language: modules designed to prepare for university lectures or professional correspondence.

Most schools hold a placement test on the first day and place the student in the appropriate class from A1 to C2. Courses mostly start on Mondays.

Short notes by country instead of a table

United Kingdom

Cities such as London, Manchester, Brighton and Oxford offer a wide choice of schools. The weekly General English fees given in the source are in the range of £200 – £500 for enrolments of 1–4 weeks; the weekly cost falls for longer enrolments. It is worth knowing from the outset that short-term programmes do not include work permission.

Malta

As an EU country where English is an official language, it offers a budget-friendly alternative. Our partner sources give a weekly range of €150 – €300 for 1–4 weeks of General English. Programmes can start from 2 weeks.

Ireland

Dublin, Cork and Galway are the leading cities. The source gives a range of €3,000 – €5,000 for 25-week programmes with work permission; programmes of this length or longer are a frequent choice for those planning a long stay.

Canada

Cities such as Toronto have schools offering general, intensive and exam preparation programmes. We confirm current fees and visa conditions separately for each school.

Dubai

Business English and corporate programmes stand out here. The source gives a range of 1,000 – 2,000 USD for 4 weeks of General English.

Germany

It is a natural starting point for those who want to learn German and aim for university in Germany. The source gives a range of €600 – €1,200 for 4 weeks of General German; in large cities such as Berlin, Munich and Frankfurt, daily expenses can also rise significantly.

For those who want to learn Russian

Details that affect the price

The number of weekly lessons, length of enrolment, season and choice of accommodation directly change the total amount. Registration and materials fees, airport transfers and health insurance should also be added to the budget. As all figures may change according to the schools' current price lists, we always obtain the quote in writing and share it with you.
