التخصصات والرسوم في روسيا

Which fields can you study in Russia?

The bachelor's and postgraduate catalogues of Russian universities are very extensive. When choosing a programme, it is not enough that the programme exists; you need to look at the language of instruction, laboratory and internship opportunities, the currency in which the fee is announced and the post-graduation recognition conditions in Turkey all together. On this page, we summarise the fields in groups and share sample fees selected from the programme tables in our partner sources.

About fees: The amounts below are the annual programme fees stated in the source and, as in the source tables, are given sometimes in roubles (₽) and sometimes in dollars ($). On the source's university pages, the exchange rate update date is stated as 15.06.2025. Current amounts may change from term to term; the exact fee should be confirmed with the university before enrolment.

Health sciences

General medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, veterinary medicine and nursing are among the fields Turkish students most often choose in Russia. Sources state a duration of 6 years for general medicine and 5 years for dentistry. As clinical practice and the language load are heavy in these programmes, it is important to make the most of the preparatory year; in addition, YÖK's ranking requirements specific to health fields must be reviewed before enrolment.

• General medicine (Russian-taught): Moscow State University 734,000₽; St Petersburg State University 535,500₽; Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University 1,250,000₽; Peoples' Friendship University of Russia 9450$; Kazan Federal University 6300$; Kazan State Medical Academy 5450$; Pavlov First St Petersburg State Medical University 4500$

Engineering and IT

Technical fields are traditionally among Russia's strongest programmes. Programmes such as software, computer, mechanical, civil, electrical and electronic, mechatronics, industrial, aerospace and naval engineering are available in different cities. Choosing a track focused on mathematics and physics in the preparatory year makes the transition to these programmes easier.

• Software engineering: Moscow State Technical University 549,000₽; ITMO University, St Petersburg 419,000₽; Ural Federal University 3400$; Saratov State University 2800$; Kazan Federal University 2100$

• Business administration: Moscow State University 800,000₽; ITMO University, St Petersburg 350,000₽; Kazan Federal University 2400$

Law and international relations

Law, international law, international relations and international trade programmes are concentrated particularly at long-established institutions in Moscow and St Petersburg. Law is one of the fields where a YKS ranking requirement may apply for recognition in Turkey; according to the 2024 YÖK regulation summarised in the source, this ranking is given as the top 125,000 for universities outside the top 1000. The final assessment is made according to YÖK's current legislation.

• Law: Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) 850,000₽; Moscow State University 510,000₽; St Petersburg State University 508,700₽; Peoples' Friendship University of Russia 6150$; Saratov State University 2700$
• International relations: St Petersburg State University 487,000₽; Peoples' Friendship University of Russia 6150$; Ural Federal University 3400$; Kazan Federal University 3100$

Natural sciences, languages and the arts

Natural and fundamental sciences such as physics, mathematics, chemistry, astronomy, history, geography and philosophy; language programmes such as Russian language and literature, philology, and translation and interpreting; and arts fields such as conservatory and design programmes are also among the options. Art and design programmes may require a portfolio, a drawing exam or a special aptitude assessment.

• Physics: Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology 500,000₽; Novosibirsk State University 370,000₽; Saratov State University 240,000₽
• Translation and interpreting: Moscow State University 549,000₽; St Petersburg State University 378,000₽; Kazan Federal University 2100$
• Conservatory: As the conservatory table in the source contains exactly the same values as the translation and interpreting table, we do not reproduce the fees for this field directly; the current amount must be confirmed with the relevant university.

Points to consider when comparing fees

• The foreign currency equivalent of amounts given in roubles changes with exchange rate movements; make comparisons using the exchange rate of the same date.
• Russian-taught and English-taught programmes at the same university may be priced differently.
• Preparatory fees, dormitory, health insurance and city expenses are not included in the annual programme fee.
• Since some source tables contain more than one row or blank values for the same university, do not base your decision on a single figure.
